#1 Moeller finished 3-0 at the Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!
The Crusaders faced off against some very tough national competition and came away with 3 big Ws.
Game #1
Horseheads (NY) 3
Moeller 4
Moeller's first game in Myrtle Beach ended in dramatic fashion, a walk off win in the 7th to beat Horseheads (NY) 4-3.
The pitching was the main story, only allowing 4 hits and 1 ER.
Matt Ponatoski got his first start of the season, dealing for 3 innings only allowing 1 hit, 2 walks, and stroke out 7.
Seth Maybury went the final 4, only walking 1, not allowing an earned run, and striking out 4.
2 of the Crusaders 4 hits were triples with
Reggie Watson (1-3) and
Teagan Cumberland (1-3) each getting one.
Adam Maybury (1-3, RBI) was the eventual hero, singling with the bases loaded to give Big Moe the walk off win.
Game #2
East Rutherford (NC) 5
Moeller 8
In yet another back and forth battle, the Crusaders had more huge late innings, defeating East Rutherford (NC).
The Crusaders rallied for 10 hits, as
Adam Maybury led the way going 3-4, with 2 RBIs and a triple.
Both
Conner Cuozzo (2-3, 2 RBIs, 3B) and
Reggie Watson (2-4) registered multi-hit games as the Moe's bats continue to stay hot.
Matt Ponatoski (1-3, RBI) also hit his first HR of the season, a BIG shot to right field.
On the mound,
Jake Gaerke got his first career start, going 3 innings, and striking out 5.
Graham Cohen came in relief, going another 3 innings and striking out 2.
Rudy Glotfelty closed things out, registering his first career save. As a unit, Big Moe only walked 2 batters.
Game #3
North Bullitt (KY) 1
Moeller 2
In a good defensive battle, the Crusaders finished off their Ripken Expierence 3-0 with a win over North Bullitt (KY).
Pitching was the story once again, with
Nate McDowell getting his 3rd start of the year going 5 innings and striking out 9.
Nate only allowed 3 hits, 1 ER, and only 1 walk.
Carson Fuhrer came in for the final two innings
He only walked 1 and did not allow a single hit, while also striking out 2 in the process.
Big Moe registered 2 hits, led by the bats of
Matt Ponatoski (2-3, RBI) and
Gunnar Voellmecke (2-2, RBI, 2B).
Donovan Glosser (1-2) also recorded an extra base hit for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders return home to Cincinnati for their first two GCL games of the season against Elder and X.
