Recap: Moeller Overcomes St. Xavier In Face Of Early 4-Run Inning
Despite allowing four runs in the fifth inning, Moeller defeated St. Xavier 11-4 on Wednesday. The big inning for St. Xavier came thanks to a home run by Andrew Weber and a double by Grant Garrett.
Moeller secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower by the Crusaders was led by
Clay Burdette,
Ethan Sweat,
CJ Richard,
Toby Hueber, and
Charlie Niehaus, who each had RBI's in the inning.
The Crusaders opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Moeller.
Moeller put up eight runs in the third inning. The Crusaders batters contributing to the big inning included Burdette, Sweat, Richard, Hueber, and Niehaus, all driving in runs in the inning.
Hueber took the win for the Crusaders. The right hander lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out two.
Sam Scuglik and
Carson Marsh entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Brennan Hileman took the loss for St. Xavier. The bulldog lasted two and a third innings, allowing four hits and seven runs while striking out three.
Moeller hit one home run on the day. Burdette had a dinger in the sixth inning.
The Crusaders tallied 11 hits on the day. Burdette, Sweat, Niehaus, and Richard all collected multiple hits for Moeller. Richard, Niehaus, Sweat, and Burdette each managed two hits to lead Moeller. The Crusaders were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Burdette had the most chances in the field with seven.
