The Moeller Crusaders took on the LaSalle Lancers last night at home at Schuler Park for the third GCL matchup of the season. Going into the game, Moeller stood at 6-3 (1-1) and LaSalle 7-2 (1-1), both tied for second in the GCL standings behind Elder.

Moeller players honor the legacy of Mike Bell ('93) and will wear these helmet stickers to commemorate his legacy at Moeller and thru all of baseball.

The Lancers came out of the gate hot scoring three runs in the top of the first on 2 hits and an error in the field. LaSalle would hold on to the 3-0 lead until the bottom of the third, where Zach F. '21 was hit by a pitch to start the inning and able to show off his speed by stealing both second and third base and eventually score on a wild pitch that got past the catcher. With 4 innings remaining, the Lancers were clinging to a 3-1 lead.

The 4th, 5th, and 6th innings were a defensive struggle between both teams, allowing no runs scored and both pitchers able to show off their ability on the mound. Going into the bottom of the 7th, LaSalle was still clinging to a 3-1 lead and was three outs away from securing the win over Moeller, but the Crusaders had one last chance and they were ready tot take advantage.

With one out, Griff C. '22 got the Crusaders rally started with a line drive double to centerfield. Cole R. '21 was at the plate next and got another base knock with a dead center single which advanced Griff C. to third base. Zach F. '21 as walked in the next at bat and the bases were loaded for the Crusaders with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Nate E. '22 hit a screaming ground ball right up the middle that made its way into the outfield and scored both Griff C. and Cole R. to tie the game at thee all with Zach F. now standing on third to be the potential game winning run. The Lancers pitcher walked another batter and then Clay B. '23 came up to the plate. On the third pitch of the at-bat, Clay rocked a single into left field bringing Zach F. home and completing the comeback over the Lancers.
