Box Score It was a historical night at Shea Stadium for the Moeller Crusaders. Not only did Moeller bring home its first GCL victory since 2018, but they also secured win #500 in program history.
Win #500 means a lot throughout the Moeller community. Moeller Football is such a rich tradition. Milestones like this cannot be ignored, and they must be celebrated.
What a better way to celebrate such a historical win then beating GCL rival, the La Salle Lancers. Moeller, in its first ever game at Shea Stadium, defeated La Salle Friday night 28-14.
La Salle was able to get off to a hot start, taking an early 7-0 advantage. However, Moeller was able to respond and close the game on a 28-7 scoring run.
The Crusaders welcomed back senior quarterback, #12 Noah Geselbracht, after previously missing the last 2 weeks. The Moeller quarterback played another excellent game, going 25-36 for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. Geselbracht has now thrown 3 or more touchdowns in every single game he has played this season.
We saw a breakout game from #18 Kurt Thompson, who caught 8 balls for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. These were all season highs for the senior wide receiver, as he was open all night long.
Junior wide receiver, #82 Ryan Mechley, also caught his first touchdown pass of the season on a 27-yard strike from Geselbracht.
Big games from tight end, #84 Joshua Kattus, and running backs, #24 Jordan Marshall and #6 Alec Weeder, also helped propel the Crusader offense. Moeller racked 402 total yards of offense compared to La Salle, who finished with 280.
The highlight of the night was a 12-yard touchdown run from Alec Weeder. Weeder took the ball around the right side, cut it back and flipped into the endzone. That exciting touchdown scamper gave the Crusaders a 2-touchdown lead, which ended any chance of a Lancer comeback.
Moeller was able to win the battle in the trenches, as they kept star La Salle running back, GI'Bran Payne, in check.
After giving up almost 300 yards rushing to St. Xavier the week before, Moeller held the Lancers to just 178.
#46 Joseph Ginnetti led the way on defense with a game high 6 tackles and an interception. #33 Alex French and #36 Matthew Seliga also chipped in with 4.5 tackles each.
It was a complete team effort on Friday night for the Moeller Crusaders. The offense and defense both showed up and showed out.
The Crusaders will need a similar team effort this Saturday, when they travel to The Pit.
Moeller (5-1) gets ready for another GCL matchup, this time in a hostile road environment.
Come out and help cheer on your Moeller Crusaders as they try to knock off the Elder Panthers.
