Moeller Falls to St. Xavier

Crusader Recap

It was a beautiful atmosphere for football Friday night at Nippert Stadium. Moeller hosted St. Xavier in what was the first high school football game in two years at the University of Cincinnati. It felt good to have high school football back at Nippert Stadium, especially for a Crusader and Bomber match-up.

The Crusaders came into this matchup red hot to start the season looking to extend their winning streak to 5 games. Moeller sophomore quarterback #7 Van George made his 2nd start of the season in place of senior #12 Noah Geselbracht, who was out for the 2nd straight week.

George was 12-24 for 151 yards, a touchdown, and 3 interceptions. After a shaky start he was able to settle in and help the offense get some points on the board. The Bombers were able to put pressure on George for most of the game, totaling 3 sacks and 4 tackles for loss.

In any football game, the battle up front is key to the outcome of the game. St. Xavier was able to control the offensive and defensive line of scrimmages for most of the night. The Bombers were able to rack up 296 yards rushing, which is the most given up by this Crusader defense all year.

St. Xavier had 12 more first downs then the Crusaders, as they were able to control the game and clock for most of the night. Moeller was able to hit on a few big plays throughout the game to keep the score within reach, but in the end it wasn't enough.

There were a few bright spots in the Crusaders 49-16 defeat on Friday night. #10 Tennel Bryant and #3 Brandon White each got loose for a big play. Bryant took a pitch from George around the right side for a 68-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 35-16 early in the 3rd quarter.

Besides a few big plays the Bombers were able to ground the exciting Crusader passing attack and slow down the offense. Moeller had their opportunity with the ball down 35-16 to really make the game exciting, but another turnover ended their chances.

That was the story of the night for the Moeller Crusaders. Too many turnovers and missed opportunities cost Moeller a chance to really make this a game.

Moeller now (4-1) will get ready for another big GCL matchup this Friday night. Moeller will play their first true home game of the season when they take on the Lasalle Lancers at Shea Stadium (Norwood High School).

Our Crusaders will need help getting back on track Friday, so come out and get loud. The Lasalle Lancers have no idea what is coming their way.
