Box Score
Shea Stadium was rocking this past Friday night. The Moeller Crusaders were able to defeat the Fairfield Indians to advance to the Region 4 semifinal.
Moeller rolled past Fairfield 35-7 in a game that never really felt close.
After a scoreless 1
st quarter, The Crusaders were able to blow this one open with some big time plays in the 2
nd quarter.
Moeller would score 1
st with a 5-yard plunge from junior running back
Alec Weeder, Weeder took the handoff right into the middle of the defense for the score.
The was quickly followed up by a beautifully thrown ball from senior quarterback
Noah Geselbracht to junior speedster
Tennel Bryant.
Tennel finished the game as the leading receiver for the Crusaders with 4 catches for 56 yards and touchdown.
However, the biggest play of the game came from the legs of sophomore running back
Jordan Marshall.
With one second remaining until halftime, Marshall took a screen pass 42 yards down the Fairfield sideline for a touchdown.
This was a huge play in the game because it gave Moeller all the momentum heading into the break.
If Fairfield would have stopped the Crusaders, it would have only been a two-score halftime deficient. Leaving the door open for the Indians to make a potential comeback.
The Crusaders defense also came up huge in this showdown. Moeller picked off Talon Fisher twice, which stalled some productive Fairfield offensive possessions.
Jordan Marshall would finish the contest with 135 yards rushing on 12 attempts, and 2 touchdowns. Marshall added another 46 yards and a score through the air.
The sophomore running back has been a game changer for this offense down the stretch of the season. The running game is starting to pick up at the perfect time.
.
Moeller will need to lean on that running game to set up the pass when they travel to Mason High School this coming Friday.
The Crusaders get set to square off with an old Big Moe rival the Princeton Vikings. Princeton is currently boasting a 11-1 record which earned them 2
nd in the GMC.
In 3 games vs GMC (Greater Miami Conference) teams, Moeller is now 3-0 with this matchup with Princeton looming.
The Crusaders against GMC competition this year are averaging 38 points per game while only giving up 16 points per game.
The Crusaders will be forced to face their toughest test of the playoffs without their senior captain, tight end
Joshua Kattus.
Kattus suffered a lower leg injury early in the win over Fairfield. Big Moe Nation please keep Josh, his family, and this team in your prayers.
Let's keep the momentum rolling from last weekend. BEAT PRINCETON!!!
