Box Score
It was another memorable night for the Moeller family under the lights of Atrium stadium.
One of the oldest Ohio high school football rivalries was renewed Friday night at Mason High School.
Moeller (10-3) defeated Princeton (11-2) in the Division 1 Region 4 semifinal. The Crusaders rallied from 14 down to defeat the Vikings 28-21.
This was an exciting game from the opening snap. On the first play from scrimmage, the Princeton running back took it 80 yards straight through the heart of the Moeller defense for a touchdown. One of the longest plays from scrimmage given up this year from the Crusaders, and they found themselves down 7-0.
Moeller would follow that up by fumbling on their first offensive possession. The Vikings scooped up the fumble and took it back 58 yards for a second touchdown. Princeton was up 14-0 in the blink of an eye, but the Crusaders never panicked and showed amazing composure.
Geselbracht started the Moeller scoring late in the 1
st quarter with an 8-yard scramble for a touchdown. Geselbracht's running not only resulted in Moeller's first score, but it also opened up the rest of the offense, especially for the Moeller running backs.
The Crusaders racked up over 200 yards on the ground. The trio of Moeller running backs were running hard and getting downhill on this Vikings defense.
Junior running back
Alec Weeder led the way with 19 carries for 107 yards with an electric 38-yard touchdown run to put Moeller up 28-14.
Jordan Marshall and Gabe Goins also got involved. They combined for 21 carries and 101 yards rushing.
Princeton couldn't consistently slow down the running game which allowed Geselbracht and this passing attack to find some openings in the Viking's secondary.
Geselbracht found fellow senior
Kurt Thompson a couple times for huge 3
rd down pickups late in the football game to keep Crusader drives alive. Geselbracht finished the game 19-28 for 242 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The offense played smart, mistake free football after the initial fumble. They showed composure and did what was needed to pick up the win.
Besides the first play of the game, the defense was outstanding. Princeton was only able to pick up 13 first downs the entire game compared to 26 from Moeller.
The Vikings struggled to throw the football against this Crusader secondary. Quarterback Mekhi Lynn only completed 5 passes for 75 yards, with most of the yards coming on one long pass play.
The Moeller secondary came into the match-up with an awesome game plan and the Vikings were forced to run the football and became very one dimensional. This allowed the Moeller defense to sit on the running game later in the 2
nd half.
Princeton tried to rally late but came up just short. The Crusaders were able to stifle a late Vikings drive to secure the win.
This was a huge win for this football team as they continue to build momentum throughout this playoff run.
Moeller is the "King of the Block" and the trophy is back on campus where it will stay until the Vikings and Crusaders cross paths again.
The Crusaders turn their attention to Lakota West this Friday night with a trip to the State Final Four on the line.
Moeller will play the Lakota West Firebirds in the Division 1 Region 4 Final at Mason High School. Kickoff will be at 7PM.
