Elder outlasts Moeller

Overtime loss 59-58

Box Score

The Crusaders traveled to The Pit this past Saturday for a huge midseason showdown with the Elder Panthers.

Despite Moeller being the favorite in this GCL matchup, the Crusaders fell 59-58 in overtime.

Our players battled all game long, but came up just short. Special teams' miscues and defense were the deciding factors in this game.

This was the first overtime game for Moeller this year. It also happened to be the most points scored and given up by the Crusaders all season.

The Crusaders gave up 512 yards of total offense. Elder had no issues moving the ball, mostly because of excellent field position.

The Panthers had nearly 300 yards in kick returns, including a 97-yard touchdown.

Success on special teams gave Elder great field position for most of the game, which allowed for quick and easy scores.

Moeller struggled containing the Panther offense. Elder quarterback Ben Hambleton was 31-40 for 404 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Drew Ramsey and Andrew Harp were also able to cause problems in the Moeller secondary. Missed assignments and big plays really hurt the Crusader defense.

Despite the Crusaders racking 594 yards of total offense and a season high 58 points, it was not enough in the end.

2 blocked extra point attempts, especially the one in overtime, turned out to be game changing mistakes.

Moeller scored first In overtime, but missed the extra point. This left the door wide open for Elder, who capitalized and won the game by 1.

Even though the Crusaders fell short, the offense still gave us fireworks. Normally if your offense puts up 58 points in a game, that should be enough to win.

Senior quarterback Noah Geselbracht was on the top his game. Geselbracht went 24-37 for 425 yards and 6 touchdowns.

With 6 touchdown passes, Geselbracht tied Thomas MacVittie '16 for the most passing touchdowns in a single game in Moeller history.

Geselbracht was also only 51 yards short of breaking the all-time passing yards record for one game.

Tennel Bryant was heavily involved as well, catching a season high 12 balls for 174 yards and 3 touchdowns to help lead the Crusaders' passing attack.

However, all the offensive excitement wasn't enough to get the job done Saturday. Moving forward though, it was a great sight to see for this offense.

The Crusaders now will turn their attention to St. Ignatius this Saturday.

Moeller (5-2) will welcome St. Ignatius (4-3) to Shea Stadium for a classic Ohio showdown. As they try to fix their mistakes from last weeks tough loss.

Moeller is 2nd all time behind St. Ignatius with 9 state championships. Ignatius holds the Ohio record with 11.

This should be a fun one, so come out to Shea Stadium at 4 PM on Saturday and get loud for your Moeller Crusaders.
