The 2024 season will be Tim Held’s 17th as the varsity head baseball coach and his 28th year at Moeller. In Coach Held’s first sixteen seasons, the Crusaders have made eight trips to the state final four including the 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 & 2023 State Championships; they also had a record of 377-83 over the fifteen seasons played. Coach Held is a ten-time GCL Coach of the Year; the 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015 & 2023 City Coach of the Year, the 2009 Bob Sumerel Greater Cincinnati Coach of the Year, the 2010 & 2023 State Coach of the Year, a seven-time Defiance College Alumni Coach of the Year, the 2013 & 2023 Cincinnati Reds/MSA Sport Coach of the Year, and the 2015 NFHS coach of the year for the state of Ohio. He was also named the Region 4 Coach of the Year by the ABCA and NHSBCA in 2023. Coach Held was also selected as the head coach for the East team in the 2015 Perfect Game All American game and an assistant coach for the East team in the 2017 game held in San Diego, CA.
Prior to being the head coach, Tim spent six seasons as an assistant with the varsity baseball team under Mike Cameron. He was part of three GCL championships, five sectional championships, four district championships, one regional championship, two city poll championships, one state poll championship, and the 2004 state championship. In addition, three of these teams ended the season nationally ranked.
Over the past twenty years, Coach Held has seen Moeller players go every major collegiate conference as well as seeing nineteen players drafted: Cameron Satterwhite in the 50th round in 2005, Andrew Brackman in the 1st round in 2007, Eric Surkamp in the 6th round in 2008, Tyler Stovall in the 20th round in 2008, Ben Hunter in the 29th round in 2008, Greg Williams in the 31st round in 2008 & 12th round in 2011, Alex Wimmers in the 1st round in 2010, Dan Burkhart in the 10th round in 2010, David Whitehead in the 36th round in 2010 & 34th round in 2013, Tom Belza in the 43rd round in 2010, Brent Suter in the 31st round in 2012, Riley Mahan in the 40th round in 2014 & 3rd round in 2017, Phillip Diehl in the 27th round in 2016, Nick Bennett in the 40th round in 2016 & 6th round in 2019; Zach Logue in the 9th round in 2017; Cameron Junker in the 10th round in 2019; Tyler McDonough in the 3rd round in 2021; Austin Strickland in the 8th round; & Ryan Galanie in the 13th round in 2023. Three of those players have reached the major leagues—Brent Suter with the Milwaukee Brewers, Phillip Diehl with the Colorado Rockies and Zach Logue with the Oakland Athletics.
Coach Held is a teacher in the mathematics department and a member of the admissions staff at Moeller. Tim and his wife, Leslie, reside in Montgomery with their sons, Drew and Alex. They are members of All Saints Parish.
