Frank Russo enters his fifth season as head track & field coach of the Crusaders. In the spring season, Coach Russo led the program to its third consecutive GCL Team Championship, with 10 athletes crowned GCL Champions. He was named GCL Coach of the Year for the third straight season, while Matt Fogler (100m/200m champion) earned GCL Runner of the Year honors.

During the championship campaign, the Crusaders captured team titles at the Elder Skyline Open, Elder Classic, Vince Mecure/Ron Russo Colerain Invitational, Milford Invitational, Monroe Invitational, and the Rod Russell/Mason Invitational. The team secured its first District Championship since 2003, placed third at Regionals, and finished 24th at the State Championship meet. Fourteen athletes advanced to the State Championship across seven events.

Individually, Gavin Barry was a State Champion as a member of the Indoor 4x400m relay team and earned All-Ohio honors in the 60m hurdles, 110m hurdles, and 300m intermediate hurdles. He was also named Cincinnati Enquirer Runner of the Year.

During the 2025–26 indoor season, the Crusaders competed at the University of Michigan, The Ohio State University, Cedarville University, Mount Saint Joseph University, and the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville. The team qualified 12 athletes in six events for the OATCCC State Indoor Championships.

Prior to Moeller, Coach Russo served as head track & field and cross country coach at La Salle High School from 1983–2018. During his tenure, he guided the programs to:

  • 4 State Championships (cross country – 2005, 2006; track & field – 1994, 2011)

Russo also led Edgewood to its first boys’ SWOC Track & Field Championship and guided both the boys’ and girls’ programs to State Championship appearances in 2021.

From 2018–2020, Russo served as Athletic Director at Trotwood-Madison High School. During that time, the 2019 boys’ basketball and football teams both won State Championships.

In 2018, Coach Russo was inducted into the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame and the Greater Cincinnati Running Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the 2009 LaRosa’s Sports Hall of Fame class. Since 2011, he has been a member of the nationally recognized Brooks “ID” Coach Program.

A 1979 graduate of Colerain High School, Russo led the cross-country program to the school’s first State Championship. He continued his athletic career at The Ohio State University, competing in both track and cross country, and was named captain of the Buckeyes cross country team in 1982.

Russo holds two postgraduate degrees: a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Miami University (1994) and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Xavier University (2000).
