Freshman Baseball Game Notes — Elder April 23, 2021

In a classic GCL titanic struggle, the Moeller Crusaders won the rubber game from the Elder Panthers to take the lead in this years GCL league play. In the home half of the 2nd inning, David Hagan walked. Will McCullough put down a perfect sac bunt. Forrest Day grounded out to second base to advance Hagan to third base. Cale Migal hit a ground ball that the first baseman dropped to allow Hagan to score. Jordan Marshall singled as did Ethan Page to send Migal home with Moeller’s 2nd run. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Ryan Land walked. Brock Wissel went in to pinch run for Land and stole second base and went to 3rd base on an overthrow of 2nd base on the steal. Will McCullough then stepped up and lined a single to left centerfield to score Wissel. It was the pitching of starter David Hagan and reliever Drew Budd that set the tone for the Moeller shutout victory. Hagen pitched the first 4 innings to pick up the win on 3 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Budd picked up the save tossing 3 innings of 1 hit baseball. Budd walked 1 batter while striking out 3 batters. The Freshman record goes to 11-4 and 4-1 to lead the GCL.
