Moeller Downs Ironton

Crusaders win 25-7

Box Score The Moeller Crusaders picked up yet another impressive road win, and this time without their starting quarterback. #7 Van George stepped up to the challenge in his first start of the season and led the Crusaders to a 25-7 victory at Ironton on Friday night.

Sophomore quarterback Van George was 17-22 for 268 yards, and 3 touchdowns. He showed poise in the pocket and was excellent when it mattered most. He got a lot of help from #10 Tennel Bryant, who continued to show why he leads this team in receptions this season. George and Bryant connected on a 57-yard touchdown pass that put the Crusaders ahead two scores late in the first quarter.

The Crusaders were able to effectively spread the ball around all night long. #3 Brandon White caught 4 passes for 26 yards, including an awesome leaping touchdown grab in the back of the endzone. #84 Joshua Kattus and #19 Jared Merk also got a piece of the action, especially Kattus who led the way with 81 receiving yards. #24 Jordan Marshall and #6 Alec Weeder split carries in the backfield for a combined total of 118 yards.

Moeller's defense was pitching a shut out until late in the 4th quarter when Ironton scored with 23 seconds left in the game. #46 Joseph Ginnetti led the charge with 6.5 tackles and 1TFL, as the Crusaders put together a total team effort on defense. Moeller was also able to force some huge turnovers including a fumble and 2 interceptions from #14 Isaiah Summerlin. Ironton was never able to get on track with their offense, the Crusader defense deserves a lot of credit for this huge road win.

We now enter, what everyone knows, is the biggest week of the season. ITS X WEEK!!!

Moeller (4-0) travels to Nippert Stadium Friday night to take on their GCL rival The St. Xavier Bombers in what should be another classic battle. St. Xavier (4-0) is the #1 team in the state of Ohio and the defending state champions.

These two teams share a lot of history and look to write another chapter of this storied rivalry Friday night.
