Moeller Claims District Title with 75-54 Win Against Miamisburg

Miamisburg had the hot hand early, but Moeller proved too consistent to be thrown down for long as the Crusaders clinched another district title, 75-54.

Miamisburg jumped to a quick 5-1 lead after a jumper and a three-point play by Alex Ball. A three by Evan Otterson gave the Vikings an 8-3 lead, which dwindled to a 10-9 lead. Logan Duncomb knocked in a jumper with 2:11 left in the first quarter for an 11-10 lead that they never gave back.

"They hit a couple of buckets early," Moeller head coach Carl Kremer said of Miamisburg's hot start. "We just stayed with what we were doing and got a few opportunities to get it to the rim.

"I'm really impressed with how well-coached Miamisburg is and how skilled their guards were. They shoot the ball well, their bigs play hard and are a really, really good basketball team. I tip my hat to them."

Miamisburg should have no problem seeing the same and more in Kremer's Crusaders.

Moeller High School guard Aidan Turner gets the basket against Jackson McGohan from Miamisburg during a Division I boys district final at Centerville March 6, 2021. Moeller won 75-54.

The size of Moeller became too much for Miamisburg to stop consistently, especially the 6-foot-9 Duncomb. After giving Moeller the 11-10 lead, Duncomb scored the next four Moeller points in the quarter as the Crusaders led 15-12 at the end of the period.

Duncomb scored 19 points with nine boards, two blocks and two steals. His teammate Aidan Noyes led the Crusaders with 23 points and three blocks while snagging seven rebounds. Moeller had 32 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards which matched Miamisburg's overall rebound total.

Noyes and Duncomb joined Aidan Turner and Alex Williams, who scored 10 points each, as Crusaders with double-digit nights. Combined, the five Moeller starters were 29-for-43 from the field, a 67.4% mark. Miamisburg was 43.5% on field goals for the night.

"I thought our guys tonight executed our stuff pretty well," Kremer said. "I thought we got out in transition some, but we got the ball inside some. We sort of attacked them on all three levels. Kinda the way you have to play in the tournament."

Coming out from halftime with a 37-27 lead, Moeller put up a 30-spot in the third quarter and had a 67-44 lead entering the fourth quarter.
