Moeller hosted St. Ignatius (Cleveland) this past Saturday at Shea Stadium. The Crusaders were able to prevail in a back-and-forth game with a win in overtime, 29-28.
That is now back-to-back overtime games for the Crusaders as they improve to (6-2) and (1-1) in overtime games this season.
This Moeller football team just never gives up. Highs and lows throughout the year have not rattled this group at all.
Our coaches and players have stayed calm, cool, and collected, and it showed through their play on the field Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders opened the game with 14 unanswered points.
Joshua Kattus and
Jordan Marshall each found the endzone in the first quarter to give Moeller a 14-0 lead.
However, St. Ignatius was able to bounce back as they outscored the Crusaders 21-7 the rest of the way.
St. Ignatius running back Marty Lenehan scored 4 touchdowns to keep the Wildcats close in this one.
Neither team ever gave up, it was a battle all the way up until the last whistle blew.
Moeller ended up down 7 points with 6 minutes remaining in the game. The offense put together a clutch drive to march right down the field.
Wide receiver
Josiah Love caught his first touchdown pass of the season late in the fourth quarter to tie the game.
Noah Geselbracht threw a beautiful fade to the junior wide receiver down the sideline for the score. Love made an outstanding catch, as he was able to high point the football.
Once again, the battle through 4 quarters ended up in a tie ball game which meant overtime.
The Wildcats started with the football and scored quickly on the Crusader defense, and Moeller found themselves down 28-21 with the football.
Moeller battled on defense and kept a very talented Ignatius offense in check. The Crusaders made everything the Wildcats did tough and didn't give up many big plays.
Moeller scored on a 3-yard touchdown run from
Jordan Marshall to pull within 1 point.
The coaches had a very difficult decision to make: Go for the win or go for the tie and play a second overtime.
The Moeller coaching staff made the gutsy decision to go for 2 and the win.
The "Philly Special" is when the running back pitches the football to a wide receiver on a reverse, who then throws it to the quarterback in the endzone.

Noah Geselbracht for the 2-point conversion and the win in dramatic fashion.
The trick play worked to perfection as St. Ignatius was too late to make the stop.
It was without a doubt one of the most exciting moments for Moeller football in recent memory.
There could not have been a more perfect ending for this senior class's last home game. The Moeller family spent the week celebrating these seniors and they got the perfect ending.
However, the season is not over yet.
There is still a lot of work to be accomplished by this group and it continues next week with a big challenge.
The Crusaders travel to Cleveland, Ohio to take on St. Edward High School. The Eagles come into this matchup undefeated and #2 in Ohio Division 1.
Moeller will need to bring the same energy with them to Cleveland if they want to pull off another big win over a storied program.
