Shea Stadium was home to Moeller's first GCL win since 2018, when the Crusaders defeated the Lancers on September 24th.
Moeller followed that up with a heartbreaking loss at The Pit. Elder was able to outlast Moeller and won 59-58 in overtime.
The Crusaders head back to Shea Stadium in hopes of regaining momentum that previously had this team firing on all cylinders.
Moeller welcomes powerhouse St. Ignatius (Cleveland) today at 4 PM.
The last time these storied programs played was the 2019-2020 season when St. Ignatius got the better of the Crusaders.
Circumstances this time around are a lot different as both teams come into the matchup boasting a winning record, Moeller is (5-2) and St. Ignatius is (4-3).
These two teams seem to be evenly matched across the board, which means we can expect a tough, physical battle. Both teams are coming off a loss last week. St. Ignatius lost a tough game to their archrival St. Edwards 19-14.
St. Edwards is considered by many people in the media as the #1 team in Ohio, now that St. Xavier is no longer undefeated. Moeller should expect for this to be one of the toughest games they play all season.
Despite the loss last week, this Crusader team has played some excellent football. The offense was on fire a week ago as they look to carry that success over to this week.
Senior quarterback #12 Noah Geselbracht has been nothing short of sensational this season.
Geselbracht is 107-158 for 1,470 yards and 18 touchdowns, with a completion percentage of 67.7%. Reminder, Geselbracht has put up these numbers while also missing two games, which is highly impressive.
Geselbracht has had a ton of help from a cast of different characters this season. It's starting to feel like every game someone different breaks on to the scene.
The most consistent weapon for Geselbracht so far has been wide receiver #10 Tennel Bryant. Bryant has found numerous ways to get involved in the offense, whether that be catching short passes, deep balls, or even direct handoffs from the quarterback. His electric play has led to numerous scoring opportunities.
However, its hard to just pick one receiver when all of them have been extremely successful.
Jared Merk, Kurt Thompson, and tight end Josh Kattus have been very exciting to watch. Each of them has had their moments throughout the year.
The key to a balanced offense is not just throwing the football, but also developing a balanced running attack. Running backs #24 Jordan Marshall and #6 Alec Weeder continue to run the football like their hair is on fire. Both have found consistent success on the ground through these first 7 games.
The Crusader offense has been able to keep them in games this year, until last week. Elder exposed some holes that will to be filled in the secondary and on special teams.
For the most part this season the defense has been outstanding. Linebacker Joseph Ginnetti leads the GCL in tackles and has been a consistent force in the middle of the Crusader defense.
The front seven for Moeller has at times been able to impose their will on the opponent. Brandon Martin, Chase Brown, Matthew Seliga, Ethan Coe and, Jack Sellers have been outstanding leading the point attack.
Defense is won at the line of scrimmage, which this Crusader team has been able to control in games. Even the secondary led by Lamont Cox and Colin Berry has had their moments. It's going to take a total team effort to pull out this win on Saturday.
Moeller is 2-8 all time vs. St. Ignatius and is 2nd in Ohio Division 1 State Championships with 9. This trails only St. Ignatius who has won 11.
BIG MOE NATION! We hope you are ready for this one. It has all the makings of a very exciting matchup.
