Two Moeller Crusaders Varsity Pitchers Combine To Shutout Victor
Playing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in the third and final game at the Cal Ripken Experience, the Moeller Crusaders defeated Victor (NY) 7-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
Justin Hornschemeier induced a double-play from Tim Koehane to finish off the game.
The Crusaders secured the victory thanks to five runs in the sixth inning with singles by
Ryan Galanie and
Michael Tennie, a walk by
Eric Bronner, and a groundout by
Max Steffen.
Moeller got things started in the first inning when
Michael O'Callaghan singled on a 2-0 count, scoring the first run.
A single by Rosso in the sixth inning proved to be the only hit for Victor.
Jack Pacetti took the win for Moeller Crusaders Varsity, going six innings, allowing no runs on just one hit, while striking out 11. Hornschemeier threw one inning in relief and recorded the last three outs to finish the Crusaders win.
Chittenden took the loss for Victor. He went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out five.
Moeller tallied ten hits on the day. Galanie, Tennie, and O'Callaghan each collected two hits to lead Moeller, who won all three games on the South Carolina trip.
